BIR Tacloban City kicks off 2012 Tax Campaign

BIR Tacloban Tax Campaign Kick off

BIR Revenue Region (RR) No. 14, Tacloban City led by Regional Director Diosdado R. Mendoza kicked off its 2012 tax campaign last February 28, 2012 at the new BIR RR 14 Records and Multi-Purpose Building, Government Center, Candahug, Palo, Leyte.

Regional Director Mendoza at the outset thanked his region’s taxpayers and the men and women of RR 14 – Tacloban City for their untiring efforts and support that spurred the region to surpass its collection goal last year. He likewise stressed the need to work in partnership with the different sectors in the region to do a repeat of last year’s collection performance.

If last year’s collection performance was indeed a gauge to get a good glimpse of what is in store for the region this 2012, Regional Director Mendoza announced that his region surpassed its January collection target by 3.24% or by P11.373M over the month’s goal of P351.456M. Compared to the collection in the same month last year, its collection grew by 18.03% or by P55.435M.

Deputy Commissioner of Internal Revenue Nelson M. Aspe in his keynote speeches echoed Director Mendoza’s expression of gratitude to all stakeholders of the region and even went to the extent of addressing each of the sectors present in the kick-off program. He further added that every Filipino must show his love for the country by unconditionally fulfilling his obligation to pay taxes to support nation-building in line with this year’s tax campaign theme of “I LOVE PHILIPPINES, I PAY TAXES.”

The region started its kick off activities with a motorcade that covered the main thoroughfares of Tacloban City. The whole day event also included a Briefing on the Tax Exemption Privileges/Tax Treatment of Cooperatives, Non-Stock Non-Profit Organizations, NGOs, GOCCs, Senior Citizens and others by Legal Division Chief Jose Ric A. Cabrera and a Tax Update for 2012 by Revenue Officer Rizalina Estrada.

During the program, a Memorandum of Agreement was forged by the BIR with the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Civil Service Commission and the Philippine Information Agency to promote tax awareness and the advocacy of paying the correct taxes on time. A media briefing was also conducted where DCIR Aspe, backstopped by Director Mendoza, ably fielded all questions from members of tri-media.

Representatives of various groups from the NGAs, LGUs, Senior Citizens, NGOs, Tax Practitioners, Business Sector, PICPA and the academe were present in an open expression of support for the tax agency.

BIR regional and district officials headed by Assistant Regional Director Nasser A. Tangcor were in attendance, together with BIR National Office representatives Reymarie T. de la Cruz of TIED and Benjamin Babor of TAS.
