BIR Revenue Region (RR) No. 11, Iloilo City led by Regional Director Romulo L. Aguila, Jr. launched its 2012 tax campaign last February 22, 2012 with a tax campaign awareness program at SM City Iloilo, B.S. Aquino Avenue, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Regional Director Aguila in his message expressed high hopes that his region will be able to meet if not surpass its P 2.99B goal for 2012 through the 10-Point Priority Program encompassing three (3) key areas: 1) Enhance Enforcement and Processes Improvement; 2) People Improvement; and 3) Taxpayer Interaction Improvement.
He emphasized that taxes collected by the BIR will trickle down to Local Government Units and their constituents in the form of Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA), congressional development funds and other allocations and projects initiated by the national government.
Regional Director Aguila in the same speech also stressed that the BIR does mean business in its tax campaign and issued a stern warning that tax cheats will be penalized through the Oplan Kandado and Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) Programs. He appealed to all local government units, business entrepreneurs, professionals and all other taxpayers to work closely with the BIR and cultivate a culture of tax consciousness.
Deputy Commissioner of Internal Revenue (DCIR) Nelson M. Aspe for his part underscored the BIR’s advocacy that all Filipinos must show unwavering love for the country by paying the correct taxes to support nation-building in line with this year’s tax campaign theme of “I LOVE PHILIPPINES, I PAY TAXES.”
The BIR thanked its taxpayers by giving out citations for the top three (3) individual and corporate taxpayers in all the revenue district offices of RR 11, Iloilo City. A Pledge of Commitment was also signed and recited by stakeholders of the revenue region.
Showbiz personality Giselle Sanchez added light moments to the affair with her usual comic and very entertaining sing and dance routine while at the same appealing to every taxpayer to pay and file their Income Tax promptly and honestly.
Adding grace to the occasion were Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog, Iloilo Provincial Governor Arthur D. Defensor, Sr. as represented by Provincial Treasurer Dr. Melba B. Sullivan and the Directors and Heads of various National Government Agencies, as well as the Presidents and Chairpersons of different business organizations of Iloilo City.
BIR regional and district officials were also in attendance, together with BIR National Office officials DCIR Celia C. King, Assistant Commissioners Lucita G. Rodriguez and Margaret Mary C. Lauron.
The region started its kick-off activities with an Ash Wednesday Mass at the BIR Regional Office and capped by a motorcade that covered the main streets of Iloilo City.
