A sole proprietor is now facing a criminal complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) after the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) today swept him for tax evasion for willful failure to pay long overdue 2005 deficiency tax assessments despite repeated demands.

Charged before the DOJ was JEROME ROEL B. CELAJE (Celaje), owner of CLEANSMART JANITORIAL & ALLIED SERVICES (Cleansmart). Cleansmart/Celaje is engaged in the sale of janitorial services with business address at 8336 Sampaloc Street, San Antonio Valley, Makati City.

Based on the best evidence available gathered by BIR investigators after it failed to receive and/or obtain the required books of accounts and other accounting records, Cleansmart/Celaje was assessed deficiency income tax amounting to P4,088,105.33, including increments.

Records of investigation show that in spite of repeated demands from the BIR, including the service of collection notices after the assessment issued against him has become final and demandable, Celaje still failed and adamantly refused to pay the said deficiency tax.

The case against Jerome Roel B. Celaje is the twenty-second (22nd) filed under the RATE program of the BIR under the leadership of Commissioner Kim S. Jacinto-Henares. It is likewise the first RATE case of Revenue Region No. 8, Makati City. (reytdlc)
