After suspending the business operations of a long line of individual and corporate business establishments, this time a general partnership under the jurisdiction of Revenue Region (RR) No. 6, Manila had been padlocked by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) after it was found to have violated the National Internal Revenue of 1997, as amended (Tax Code), by under-declaring its taxable sales for 2007 by 864.49%.
MERROSI SALES TRADING CO. (Merrosi), owned and operated by partners Merlinda C. Barroga and Vanessa M. Velasco, was ordered closed last March 22, 2010 by virtue of a closure order signed on March 18, 2010 by Deputy Commissioner Gregorio V. Cabantac of the BIR Legal and Inspection Group.
The BIR through Revenue District Office (RDO) No. 30, Binondo discovered that Merrosi made importations in 2007 amounting to P116,686,833.00. Merrosi refuted the BIR findings saying that its sales for 2007 amounted only to P23,930,890.00 only to be rebuked when the tax agency found out that it declared only P2,481,190.55 in sales for the same year.
The closure of Merrosi was implemented following its failure to explain its side and present evidence to dispute the above-mentioned BIR findings as indicated in the 48 Hour Notice and Five Day VAT Notice.
RR No. 6, Manila Regional Director Alfredo V. Misajon lauded the efforts of RDO No. 30, Binondo for being the first in his jurisdiction to have implemented the Oplan Kandado program for 2010. He reminded all taxpayers under RR No. 6, Manila to strictly adhere to the bookkeeping, invoicing, and registration requirements of the BIR. He likewise urged his revenue officers to continue the relentless pursuit of recalcitrant taxpayers following the mandate of the Oplan Kandado and the Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) programs of the BIR.
Present during the closure proceedings were BIR Deputy Commissioner for the Legal and Inspection Group Gregorio V. Cabantac, RR No. 6, Manila Regional Director Alfredo V. Misajon and Revenue District Officer Florante C. De Castro.
Oplan Kandado is a flagship project of the BIR led by Commissioner Joel L. Tan-Torres which aims to strictly enforce sanctions for non-compliance by business establishments with requirements of the Tax Code.
