PICPA Appeals to Members for Increased Tax Payments

Quezon City, 25 March 2010 – Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) President Dr. Antonio P. Tecson appealed to all its members during the launching of  BIR Handang Maglingkod Program (HMP) and BIR HMP MOA signing with Participating Organizations (POs) to increase their tax payments and those of their clients and help the Bureau of Internal Revenue in its effort to raise more revenues this year.Dr. Tecson in urging its members said that an increase of at least 20% in income tax payments of corporate and individual taxpayers clients over that of last year will help the bureau attain its collection target for 2010.

The Bureau through the HMP, has established partnership with the POs such as the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and PICPA to get support and assistance in its campaign to promote taxpayer service excellence in BIR frontlines that would encourage voluntary compliance among taxpayers.

The HMP aims to foster cooperation with key stakeholders of the BIR and private organizations that are involved in the field of business, taxation and customer service.

This program will also provide inputs to BIR management on the performance of covered BIR offices that will be considered as part of the key performance indicators to be used in the evaluation of said BIR offices.

It will also provide feedback to BIR top management on the level of customer satisfaction, issues and concerns of taxpayers, and resolution of the said issues and concerns.

Commissioner Joel L. Tan-Torres emphasized that improving taxpayer service is top in the list of the priority concerns of the bureau because he believes that enhanced taxpayer service can bring about maximum voluntary compliance and is the most effective means of revenue collection.
